Australian skilled occupations list (SOL)
One of the basic requirements of skilled migration to Australia is that
you are suitably trained in an occupation listed on the Australian
Government's Skilled Occupations List (SOL).
The SOL includes details of skilled occupations that are currently in demand throughtout Australia. Each occupation on the SOL has specific qualifying criteria which may be based on formal qualifications, employment experience, or a combination of both. For example a tradesman will usually require a work experience in addition to a period of formal training, whereas an Accountant's teritary education will be the primary consideration
Before you are able to apply for migration to Australia your skills will need to be assessed to ensure they are comparable to the Australian standard for your chosen occupation. This assessment is carried out by a number of industry specific skills assessing authorities.
Each occupation on the SOL attracts a certain number of points (40, 50 or 60 points) depending on the skill level required and the current level of demand for the occupation. These points will be used in calculating your total points test score.
Please note that you should not proceed with the skilled migration to Australia if you cannot find your occupation on the SOL.
