Australian climate

Australia is renonwed for its great weather and abundance of sunshine hours. Much like its vast landscape, Australia is home to a diverse varitey of climatic zones including deserts, snow-capped mountains, tropical rainforests and cool climate forests.

In general, the northern area of Australia enjoys a tropical climate and southern Australia a temperate one. The summer months are December to February, autumn months are March to May, winter months are June to August and spring months are September to November.

Weather in the tropical states of Queensland and the Northern Territory is highly predictable, with typical daily maximum temperatures in the winter months ranging from 20 to 24 degrees Celsius, coupled with low rainfall. Further south, the weather is less dependable; for example, Melbourne has winter maximums down as low as 13 degrees Celsius yet can also reach winter highs of 23 degrees Celsius.

During summer the northern states are hotter and wetter, while the southern states are simply hotter, with temperatures up to 41 degrees Celsius in Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne, but generally between 25 and 33 degrees Celsius.
