Points Based System for UK immigration

The UK Government's widespread reform of UK immigration rules will see significant changes to the way in which foreign nationals apply for, and are granted the opportunity to live and work in the UK.

The Points Based System (PBS) has been developed to help the UK to manage its migration programme more effectively - making it easier to control UK immigration and tackle abuse while also helping to identify and attract the most talented workers. The changes will see the introduction a new 5 tier visa system, with tier 2 of the PBS replacing the current UK Work Permit scheme.

In addition to the introduction of a range of new civil and criminal penalties for individuals and employers for non-compliance, the PBS also emphasises the importance of immigration compliance and employer responsibility toward the prevention of illegal working.
