Isle Of Man Immigration

Although the Isle of Man is under the responsibility of the British Crown, it has its own set of Immigration & Visa rules and visitors.

Visitors from England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, Republic of Ireland and Channel Islands do not require passports or visas to enter Isle of Man, however foreign nationals from outside these countries or the European Economic Area (EEA) who wish to come to the Isle of Man to study or work will need to make an application entry clearance and an appropriate visa or work permit.

Isle of Man Work Permits

Foreign nationals who wish to come to the Isle of Man to work will require a work permit issued under the Overseas Labour Scheme and a visa (where necessary). Isle of Man work permits are similar to the UK work permits in that they are issued for a specific job with a specific employer and are normally only issued to people with high level qualifications or occupational skills and with substantial post qualification experience. Furthermore, the employer must be able to show that there is no one available to do the job on offer from within the Isle of Man, United Kingdom or European Economic Area.

Isle of Man student visa requirements

Foreign students wishing to study on Isle of Man must ensure that they comply with UK visa and immigration standards prior to leaving their home countries. Applications for visa/entry clearance certificates to study on Isle of Man must be made through their nearest British Embassy, High Commission or Consulate. Note that Isle of Man immigration rules do not apply to students from countries of European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland – they are eligible to study and live on Isle of Man for the duration of their course without requiring entry clearance certificates.
